June (not her real name) came to see us at Platinum Physio six months ago following a traumatic fall in her local shopping centre. Prior to this fall, June was very active and able to get herself up off the floor and walk around easily, with no need for a walking frame, walking stick or any sort of assistance.
Following the fall, June started to rely heavily on a walking frame with four wheels, and her confidence was at rock bottom.
June was recommended by a friend to come and join a Falls Prevention group session. She had her initial physiotherapy session shortly after her fall, and based on discussion it was felt that attending our Physiotherapist directed Balance and Mobility classes twice per week would provide a safe environment for her to build strength, and practice balance skills.
As June continued to attend these Balance and Mobility sessions, her confidence grew each week, as she was able to regain her strength and learn the skills and techniques needed to reduce the risk of falls and get herself up off the floor without assistance. After three months she no longer needed her walking frame!
June continues to attend her Balance and Mobility sessions in order to improve her strength, balance and mobility, and has found it a great way to socialise and exercise at the same time.
