As the warm weather hits, many of us have the same reaction. The reality of shedding some layers can be daunting. Don’t panic! There’s still time to get in shape, not just to look good, but to make the most of the warm weather and to feel the benefits of being active.

Strength and fitness training are important for getting your body ready for summer activities like gardening, golf and hiking. If you haven’t been exercising this winter, you set yourself up for injury when you jump into summer activities with little preparation.

Top 4 tips for losing fat and getting fit safely

Strength and functional fitness training are crucial factors in losing fat and getting fit. Not only do they make your body and bones stronger, they also help to raise your metabolism so you burn more calories all day long. Here’s our tips:

  1. Target all your muscle groups at least twice a week, with a day or two of rest in between workouts
  2. To build muscle endurance, keep the number of repetitions of each exercise above 10 – 20.
  3. For strength, keep your repetitions to 10 or below. Lift enough weight so that your last rep is difficult, but not impossible
  4. To ensure you exercise safely and appropriately, get professional advice from our Physiotherapists.
